St Brigid is one of the patron saints of Ireland. She was from Kildare. On St Brigid’s feast day it is traditional to make a cross from rushes. They were set over doorways and windows to protect people from any harm. Mrs.Hurley comes into the school each year and helps us make crosses.
Every Monday morning the Senior Classes have drama from 9 a.m. to 10.30 a.m. with Ms. Walsh Murphy, Backdrop. We improvise and do lots of activities and act out scenes. We use different characters and use different accents to act out scenes.
6th Class will be making their Confirmation on Thursday 7th April in St. Mary’s church, Innishannon. As part of the preparation for this event, the students are on a rota to say the Prayers of the Faithful at Knockavilla Church every 5 weeks. They will be celebrating this Sacrament with the other schools in the Parish – Knockavilla, Castlelack and Innishannon.
While it may not be Road Safety Awareness week Nationally until October 5th, we were delighted to get a delivery of High Visibility Vests in school this week. So we all did our Road Safety lessons and practised the Safe Cross Code. It is so important to be seen on the road, especially when walking in country areas now that the evenings are getting shorter. We were also visited by Garda Declan Lynch, our Community Garda, who was invited to the school to put the pupils through their paces!! All passed with flying colours.
